Endocrine, Head & Neck Pathology Fellowship

This is a one-year ACGME accredited clinical fellowship program designed to develop diagnostic expertise in surgical pathology, specifically endocrine, head and neck pathology for either academic or community settings. Of the approximately 58,000 surgical specimens per year processed by Yale Pathology, about 4000 fall under endocrine, head and neck pathology. In addition, approximately 4000 cytology specimens and 1000 molecular tests represent endocrine and head and neck lesions.

The Department of Surgery’s Section of Endocrine Surgery and Section of Otolaryngology with more than 25 surgeons, and the Endocrinology Sections of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, staffed by over 20 endocrinologists, together make YNHH a tertiary center attracting a broad range of patients suffering from common to rare and unusual diseases. The service also includes oral and maxillofacial pathology and ophthalmic pathology. The scientific environment is particularly well suited to encourage translational research bringing advances in the basic sciences to clinical investigation.

• Develop expertise in diagnostic pathology of endocrine and head and neck disease including intraoperative and final diagnosis
• Interpret and incorporate data from clinical, radiological, cytological, molecular and other ancillary studies in diagnostic workup, prognostic prediction, staging and management of cancers
• Interpretation of various ancillary tests, including prognostic biomarkers

• Clinical service rotations on both the EHN and General Surgical Pathology services, including “Hot-Seat”, oral and maxillofacial pathology, molecular pathology
• Cytology-surgical pathology correlation
• Elective time for focused subspecialty rotations in areas such as dermatopathology, hematopathology, bone and soft tissue pathology, ophthalmic pathology, among others
• Participation in multi-disciplinary tumor boards, journal clubs and departmental and interdepartmental clinical conferences
• Opportunity to complete research projects in collaboration with faculty

Three years of training in ACGME accredited anatomic pathology or four years training in combined anatomic and clinical pathology, or equivalent experience. Foreign medical graduates with equivalent experience who have successfully passed USMLE I and II and are eligible for a Connecticut license may be considered in accordance with hospital policy.

Stipends and benefits are commensurate with hospital policy.

We have filled our position for the 2024-2025 academic year and will begin accepting applications for the 2025-2026 academic year in April 2023.
